First time: Set a passphrase

On your first visit, you'll set a passphrase. This encrypts your private key before it's stored on the server. The passphrase itself never leaves your browser.

Next time: Unlock with passphrase

On return visits, just enter your passphrase. Your encrypted private key is fetched from the server and decrypted in your browser. Works from any device.

3

Find a recipient and start chatting

In the 'New Message' tab, enter the recipient's Account ID (SM-XXXXXX) or email and press 'Find'. Using an Account ID, you can message anyone without knowing their email. Their public key is automatically retrieved.

You can also search by email address

4

Send messages and files

Write your message and press 'Encrypt & Send'. You can attach files too. Everything is encrypted in your browser with the recipient's public key — not even the server operator can read it.

5

Continue the conversation

Switch to 'Conversations' to see all your chats. Tap any to continue in a chat-style interface. New messages show an unread badge.

Tips

  • 🔑Remember your passphrase — it's needed to decrypt your private key
  • 🤝The recipient also needs a Pro account with SecureChannel set up
  • 💻As long as you remember your passphrase, you can access from any device
  • 📎Attach files to messages — they're automatically encrypted too
  • 🔒The server only stores ciphertext. Not even the operator can read your messages
